Since our founding, we’ve been committed to being down-free and using only synthetic fills in our insulated jackets. We choose to use synthetic fills because of their performance in a variety of conditions; in comparison to down, they retain 75% of their warmth when wet, ensuring versatility within our insulated jackets so you are prepared to face anything the coastal climates throw at you.

In 2017, after nearly a decade of research and development, we introduced Finisterre Engineered Insulation. We wanted to develop our own insulation because we wanted to source a fill for our insulated jackets which have a higher recycled content than what was available on the market. Made from recycled polyester, FEI offers superior down-free, high-loft insulation that balances performance, warmth and sustainability.

Available in two forms (C-form and S-form) their names are inspired by the material’s resemblance to cloud types, paying homage to our very British fascination with the weather.

FEI C-form: Named after the Cumuliform cloud type - comprised of heaps and tufts. This mimics the look, feel, and performance of down, with considerably less environmental impact.

FEI S-form: Taking its name from the Stratiform cloud type - this is a flat sheet of wadding of voluminous, thermal insulation constructed from a blend of fine & hollow fibres, which trap air, offering excellent insulating capacity even in wet conditions.
