THE WAREHOUSE CREW

If there is anything indicative of our business growth over the last 15 years, it’s the warehouse. As Finisterre have grown, the warehouse crew have played a vital part in getting product logged, shipped out and managing our returns process. We take the time to catch up with a couple of members from our warehouse team.

What is your role in the warehouse? Warehouse Supervisor

Best part of working in the warehouse crew?

It’s challenging but also very fulfilling because everyone is like family, it's not in every work place you get this sense of mutual aid. It’s a great feeling when you’re going to work and it’s like hanging out with your best friends, all surf fans and surfers but all different in many ways and that creates some funny moments.

You guys find plenty of time to surf… how do you make the surf/work balance a reality?

Surfing is our hobby so work comes always first, we miss some epic sessions sometimes and that sucks but surfing is very important as a spirit cleanser and energy booster, especially in the winter when there’s not much light out there. It keeps everyone healthy and in good spirit, and that’s key for the warehouse to be a good work place and for everyone to be productive.

Favourite surf spot: Cornwall in this day and age this becomes a loaded question, you have to quickly learn what little nooks or overlooked banks to hit to avoid the crowds. Growing up in Pembrokeshire instilled in me a strong appreciation for under-rated beach breaks, as Mickey Munoz once said ‘There are no bad waves, only a poor choice of equipment and a lousy attitude’ and with this in mind you can definitely find some uncrowded waves.

What is your role in the warehouse?
I’m currently leading the returns department through the busy start of the year.

What’s it like to be part of a growing, dynamic team?

Although the team in the Warehouse come from all over the world we all share the common bond of an intense love of the Ocean. We range from a Brazilian power-surfer, a Portuguese ex-bodyboarder with a point to prove, to a couple of Welshmen just happy to find a bit more swell than our homeland, and this mix leads to some heated exchanges be it in the sea or at the ping-pong table.

The whole team is pretty dedicated to finding time in the ocean even in the depths of winter. The general rule is if you have time to get 3 waves it’s worth it. One of my most memorable surfs this winter involved running down the completely empty beach as the light was fading and trading fun wedges with one of the warehouse crew for the last half hour before pitch black.

Due to our shared surf addiction we are all thankful for these short sessions of ocean-therapy, as we can all get a bit cranky if there hasn’t been a swell for a while.

Our warehouse team are located just off the A30 in Redruth, everything we sell online or in store, passes through their hands.

The impact of staying true to our roots means that we may not always be able to compete with brands that can offer outsourced and 3rd party speedy delivery and return turn arounds, but it does mean you’ll get the right product in the best time possible, packed with care by people we know.
