Female Cornish Surfers | Perranporth’s ‘Ladies Who Surf.’

Unknown Female Surfers, Told By A Group Of Artists In Cornwall: Local poet Anna Maria Murphy walked around Cornwall, collecting and re-interpreting stories and memories from the people she met along the way. The stories were then read by Dawn French and brought to life by local film makers Lizzie Black, Brett Harvey and Mae Voogd.

In a light-hearted look at the history of Cornish female surfers these "woollen ladies, these knitted mermaids" surfed on anything that they could find...

As competent as any man, "she could smell an offshore wind, knew when to carve a barrel and judge the swell by its markings... knew the joy of the feel of spray in your face and feel the rushing tide...".
