The solstice has passed us by and the sunshine of summer has already faded to a distant memory. But far from being the time to bundle up indoors, autumn is one of the best times to get outside.

Our stores are hubs for our community of sea-going adventure seekers, so who better to ask to find out the best outdoor experiences and micro-adventures around our new store in Brighton? We sat down with Store Manager Rhys, for his local autumn adventure advice.

 

What does the coming of autumn mean to you and your community?

Being right by the sea you can feel the change in the air quite clearly. Brighton Lanes are bursting with independent pubs and coffee houses where you can 'cosy-up' throughout the day and evening.

Where is a good place to find peace and reconnect to nature in or around Brighton?

Brighton seafront is so much quieter in the autumn months compared to summer. The tide of holiday-makers and city dwellers has receded and we get empty beaches again. Sitting under a blanket on the beach with a flask and a friend is one of the best places to be, listening to the birds and the waves.

What is the best place for surfing nearest your store?

Brighton only really works a couple of times a year, but is a little more consistent in Shoreham and along the coast between Brighton and Lancing. When the weather closes in the sea springs to life, but Brighton is great for kite surfing and paddleboarding most of the year.

Where is the best place to discover wildlife in Brighton?

Stanmer Park sits on the edge of the city and has great scenery, with plenty of wildlife that call it home. Devil's Dyke and Ditchling Beacon also have breath taking coastal landscapes, and are fantastic spots for a bit of bird watching.

Where is the best place for storm-watching in or around the city?

If a storm rolls in, it’s probably best seen from the famous Brighton Pier. It’s fairly exposed but, you really get to experience the full force of the storm. For a birds eye perspective, head up to Ditchling Beacon where you will get a great view looking out over the sea.

What is an undiscovered or little known adventure activity that can be done close by?

Although surfing is a rare occurrence in Brighton, the town has a massive affinity for the water. There are loads of water sport activities to get involved in; from paddleboarding and wakeboarding to diving and fishing.
