2018: LOOKING BACK BY FINISTERRE FOUNDER TOM KAY

"Using business as a force for good."

Welcoming in the new year and reflecting on the year past with a few words from Finisterre Founder, Tom Kay.

Supported by our customers and community, there were some big moments in 2018. Pushing product innovation, design and sustainability, we launched a collection to raise awareness of the pressing issue of marine microplastics, our entire outwear range become free of harmful fluorocarbons, and we ran the first ever women’s wetsuit tester camp to help build a better women’s wetsuit.

Becoming B Corps certified in our 15th year was a proud one for us all. In doing so, we join a growing movement using business as a force for good, aiming to show there is a better way of running a business and making product.

And finally (it seems a long time ago now), Finisterre was part funded by the Prince’s Trust in 2003. In 2010, I had written to HRH Prince of Wales, inviting him to come and see what he had helped start. Eight years later, he took me up on the invitation! And so, in July, it was a real honour to show HRH Prince of Wales around Wheal Kitty, thank him for the support in those early days, meet the team, as well talk through our work on sustainability, wool innovation and ocean conservation.

Thanks for being part of our journey! Happy New Year and look forward to 2019.
